 OCTAGON BAR

The Octagon Bar is at the heart of The Clarence, a beautiful room situated in the exact same space as the original hotel bar. With an octagon shaped dome rising high above the central bar, it is the perfect setting for a glamorous gathering of friends over cocktails or pre match pints with mates.

The Back Bar boasts many original features including the stunning Art Deco floor, the windows and the original hotel clock that sits proudly over the open fireplace.

A wonderful retreat on a cold day, the fireside seats are the most coveted part of the Back Bar in Autumn and Winter. Relax with a fine whiskey and a classic book and while the day away in comfort and peace.

The original snug is also intact, an intimate and cosy space for a tete-a-tete over champagne or a good old fashioned argument over brandies!

A delicious bar food menu designed by the chefs at Cleaver East is available in The Octagon Bar.

Open: Sunday - Thursday 12pm-11.30pm

 Friday& Saturday 12pm - 2am

CLEAVER EAST

Cleaver East By Oliver Dunne, Dublin’s newest hotspot, opened its doors on the 29th of July 2013. Dunne, who currently holds a Michelin Star for Bon Appetit Restaurant, located in Malahide is working in collaboration with another Michelin Star chef Rory Carville to create an exciting new dining experience at Cleaver East.

The ethos of Cleaver East is to delivery the highest standard of food and cuisine at really affordable prices. Open seven days a week, Cleaver East is a tasting plate restaurant
serving a combination of Irish and International dishes, innovatively presented; offering a unique tasting experience.

The Cleaver East menu features savory and sweet tasting plates, which are fully garnished dishes, served in smaller portions to be shared by the table. We would recommend 3-4 dishes per person depending on your appetite, which would be the equivalent of a starter and a main course in a conventional restaurant. To finish we would recommend 2-3 small sweet dishes per couple.

The taste and flavour of the dishes combined with great service, classic cocktails, affordable wines, Irish and International craft beer creates a fantastic dining experience.

Now open at 5 Wellington Quay, Dublin 2,  beneath the hotel, The Liquor Rooms serves an extensive and well considered selection of the finest libations Seven evenings a week, from 5pm ‘til very late. The subterranean drinking den hosts four separate spaces, the décor - a loose homage to Prohibition era chic: Swirling Carpets, Mosaic Tiling, Grandmother’s parlour wallpaper, heavy Velvet Drapes, Casablanca Ceiling fans, long-lost family portraits and a striking wall of cast iron fireplaces speckled in candlelight.

The Liquor Rooms embraces thirsty travellers with huge soft leather couches, bear-hug armchairs and an ingenious drinks list. Each room has its own distinctive personality and the features such as the  standout wall of cast iron fireplaces, a salvaged bandstand, planted walls that grow up into art deco burnished tin ceilings. A tiny snug here, a dark corner there, somewhere private to flirt or gossip, what’s a den of iniquity without salacious conversation and bumbling loose lips, fuelled by three too many over-proof Rums.

The Marbled Main Bar is stocked to the ceiling with all manner of elixirs and potions, from the pints of plain to the preening cocktails, Gins to make you sin, Absinthe's, Tequilas, Cordials, Beers, Brews and more Whiskies than a night out with Errol Flynn. Consider the well-appointed ladies and gentleman’s restrooms and The Liquor Rooms 360 degree
tour is complete.

Entertainment ranges from vinyl DJ's, to weird and wonderful discoveries and an old timers piano ready for any number of tunes by visiting friends. A wonderful menu of vittles are prepared, cooked and served from the kitchen between 5pm and 10pm. Flappers, tigers, puppies and all manner of delicacies are offered to sate appetites. Leisurely drinkers can purchase their favourite bottle of hooch, the bar will take it back at the end of the evening, label it and store away in the private liquor cabinet until your next visit.

“This is a good place” he said. “There’s a lot of liquor” I agreed. Ernest Hemmingway.
